Skelingtons

When I was young ... Many many moons ago ... I couldn't say the word skeletons, I said skelingtons instead and my sister always made fun of me , no change there then!

I saw this Skeleton toile years ago at the festival of quilts in Birmingham.

I loved it so much I bought it in three colours, red white and blue.

I had NO idea what to do with it so it languished in the cupboard. I knew I wanted a pattern which would focus on the big print so Amanda Murphys Topiary Tile pattern fitted the bill perfectly. But what fabrics to put with it?

It was only when I was putting away my fabric from Paducah that I saw the Anna Griffin Madison was perfect to go with my skelingtons!

So it all kind of grew from there!

It's still in progress but my beautiful skelingtons will be liberated from the cupboard.

Unbroken

I thought the 2.5 inch log cabin for the Tula Pink butterfly quilt were eyewateringly fiddly but these 3 inch churn dashes For the my small world quilt come a close second. But they didn't break me, but there are a few more of them to do ... Watch this space!

Retreating

I went to a retreat! I loved it! It was my second time at the West Manse Quilt retreat And I loved it. Even more than the first time because this time I knew what to expect.

There were five chums who went, not all the others are on social media, well some are but don't post anything :-)

So what's it like? Well the rooms are fab:

This is the sweet little room me and my chum shared, there are three other rooms which can be used as singles.

This is the workroom. Ample room for five sewers:

You get fed LOADs of great food, teas coffees and cakes always on hand:

It's sheer and utter bliss.

So what did I make? Well I took a pile of thirties fabrics:

I chopped them up, a LOT.

And made some of these:

A whole load of these:

Threw in a barrel of these:

These are the start of log cabins which finish up at 2.5 inches square ..... Oh I looooved making those ... Praps not.

What did I end up with??

A thirties Tula pink butterfly that's what!

The eagle eyed among you will notice that it is not quite complete, I ran out of white, hey ho, it's finished now and will no doubt appear on here as soon as I figure out how to quilt something this mahoosive!

The best thing about quilt retreat though??

This wee chap!

Look at that faaaace!

When fussy cutting goes wrong ...

Can you spot it? My friends husband did ... Totally unintentional, I was concentrating on getting all of the dog in the frame and not paying attention to what was going on elsewhere!

QAL ity time

See what I did there? :-) yep I can't resist a Quilt a long, this one seems fairly laid back which is good because blimey the bits are small. It's the My Small World QAL by Jen Kingwell from the special spring edition of Quiltmania. The blocks are teeny tiny and the instructions need careful reading, neither of which are my strong points but I'm loving it. There are some beautiful interpretations of it on Instagram and Flickr, I'm loving the one with the night sky.

Anyhow here is my take on part one.

One day I will take beautifully focused and composed pictures, but it won't be today!
